During coronavirus, the Crown Estate, a £13 billion property portfolio, forfeited £500 million due to a rental drop amid the UK lockdown.
The downturn left some of its portfolio struggling without rent, including London’s Regent Street.
Profits from the Crown Estate calculate the Sovereign Grant every year, which, in turn, provides the Royal Family with fuel for their royal duties and upkeep.
The payment comes from the Government to aid with their service, and officials announced the public would top up their losses.
