Usually the couple welcome family to Balmoral Castle, in Aberdeenshire, for weeks at a time, however there may be restrictions as coronavirus continues to lockdown areas of the UK.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, Prince Edward and their two children Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn, were spotted enjoying a socially distanced walk with the Queen around the grounds of Balmoral at the beginning of this month.

Philip does not usually spend so much time with his wife, spending his retirement away from the busyness of royal life at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate.

However, this year has been particularly active for the retired royal – with a couple of key events.
