The Princess Royal, who is the only daughter of the Queen and Prince Philip, turns 70 on August 15. To mark the occasion, the Royal Family announced on social media they would be celebrating Anne’s life and work in the week leading up to her birthday.

For the first day on Saturday, the royals shared an image taken in 1950 of Anne as a baby with the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and older brother Prince Charles.

The Princess was born at Clarence House and was the Queen and Philip’s second child.

The Royal Family also posted a snap from Anne’s christening at Buckingham Palace.

She wore the Honiton lace gown for the occasion, which was attended by close family.

In a third picture, the Princess is shown on the palace balcony in 1953 for the Queen’s coronation.

She was too young to attend the ceremony earlier that day at Westminster Abbey.

Another photo is of Anne with two other youngsters after joining Girlguiding in 1959.

The final image is of the Princess with the Queen and her adorable pony Greensleeves in 1955.

“After Her Majesty the Queen she’s my favourite royal. I like her no-nonsense and down to earth attitude.

“She deserves more recognition than she gets and is a great example to follow.

“God bless her on her 70th birthday & in the years to come.”

A third said: “Looking forward to seeing the Tweets, I love HRH The Princess Royal.”

Another commented: “She is an inspiration to her family. Straight talker, but keeps private and works very hard. I wish her a very happy birthday next week.”

One more added: “So looking forward to this! The Princess Royal is an amazing woman!”

An ITV documentary to mark Anne’s 70th birthday, which aired last month, chronicled her life.

And the Princess guest-edited Country Life magazine to celebrate her milestone birthday.
