This week Boris Johnson announced a number of changes to the UK lockdown, and soon all areas in England will be defined by one of three lockdown tiers. There will be ‘medium’, ‘high’ and ‘very high’ tiers, depending on the spread of coronavirus in a certain region.
When do new covid rules start?
The new three-tier system will come into force from 12.01am on Wednesday, October 14.
Most areas currently under a local lockdown or additional restrictions will be placed under Tier 2 restrictions from this date.
A few other areas, such as Nottinghamshire, are being upgraded to Tier 2 restrictions as well.

The Liverpool City region will be the only part of the country to face Tier 3 restrictions from Wednesday.
Under the highest tier, people living in the region will not be able to socialise with other people from outside their households in indoor settings.
Pubs and bars will also have to close temporarily, unless they can operate as a restaurant.
Other venues will also be closing across Liverpool City, including gyms, casinos and betting shops.
“But that is going to depend, I’m afraid, on our success in getting this virus down and our ability as a country to follow through on the package of measures.”
All lockdown measures across England will be subject to regular review.
Areas with rising numbers of coronavirus cases will likely be upgraded to Tier 2 or Tier 3 restrictions over the coming weeks and months.
For the areas with the highest lockdown restrictions, currently Liverpool City, there is a four-week “sunset clause” in place.
Mr Johnson added: “We will also keep these measures under constant review, including a four-week sunset clause for interventions in very high areas.”
