Prince William and Prince Harry shared a deep connection, forged after the untimely death of their mother Princess Diana, and used to want only the best for one another, royal experts Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand wrote in their new biography Finding Freedom. In the unauthorised biography of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the authors depicted the mutual support the brothers used to enjoy.

Mr Scobie and Ms Durand wrote: “Each brother wanted real happiness for the other.”

The authors, who said to have spoken with dozens of sources close to the Sussexes as well as palace aides, reported in their book how the brothers grew up looking after one another even when their careers, first in the military and then as senior royals, started to eat up much of their time.

The authors wrote: “The mutual support between brothers took many forms – everything from renting a cottage together when both were training at a Shropshire flight school in 2009, to both becoming helicopter pilots, to setting up the Royal Foundation, the umbrella organisation for all their philantropic work, the same year.

“Even once William got married and started a family, the two still found time for fun.

“According to a source, the brothers enjoyed sneaking out for drinks and food at a place called Mari Vanna about a mile away from the palace.

“The Russian restaurant is a favoured locale for some of the world’s wealthiest oligarchs, but it’s also a very private place.

“‘Most of the look-at-me action takes place across the road at Mr Chow’, said a staffer.”

At the restaurant so close to Kensington Palace, William and Harry could enjoy some privacy and spend a normal night out without being followed by the press, according to the authors.

And, even when someone was trying to disrupt their hours of freedom, the Dukes could count on their security officers, Mr Scobie and Ms Durand wrote.

DON’T MISS

Finding Freedom read: “One night in early 2016, they both got ‘totally drunk’, according to the source.

“But it wasn’t until Harry went outside to smoke that there was a problem.

“‘He fell into a little bush. Someone tried to take a photo of him on their phone and Harry’s protection officer literally jumped to block them from taking it’.

“‘Harry was none the wiser. He just went back in to William, so they could carry on drinking’.”

Cracks formed in the relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry after the Duke of Sussex fell in love with Meghan, according to Mr Scobie and Ms Durand.

Prince William feared the Duke of Sussex was moving forward with his relationship with Meghan too quickly and urged him to take as much times as he needed to think about it, the book claims.

The authors wrote: “‘Don’t feel you need to rush this,’ William told Harry, according to sources.

“’Take as much time as you need to get to know this girl.’

“In those last two words, ‘this girl’, Harry heard the tone of snobbishness that was anathema to his approach to the world.

“During his 10-year career in the military, outside the royal bubble, he had learnt not to make snap judgments about people based on their accent, education, ethnicity, class or profession.”
