Hampton Roads Community Health Center Receives $15k COVID-19 Recovery Grant Funding

Grant Award Supports Expansion of Center’s Behavioral Telehealth Services

October 28, 2020 — The Hampton Roads Community Health Center (HRCHC) has been awarded $15,000 from Hampton Roads Community Foundation’s COVID-19 Recovery grant. The grant will allow HRCHC to increase its telepsychiatry services to the Center’s existing and new mental health patients.

“We are grateful to receive Hampton Roads Community Foundation’s COVID-19 Recovery grant, as it will serve to offset the cost of our much-needed mental health services,” shares Erica Johnson, Chief Operating Officer. “As a result of COVID-19, we rapidly adjusted our in-person service delivery model, to primarily telehealth, because we understand the existing healthcare needs of the community and have forecasted future needs, which has led us to continue enhancing our telemedicine infrastructure, so that we may expand our reach to existing and new patients, while also increasing continuity of care during emergencies, such as this pandemic, natural disasters and shutdowns.”

Funds granted will be used to expand the Center’s mental health services, as the demand for virtual mental health services continues to rise, amid the pandemic. To avoid coronavirus-related reductions in ancillary services, and to avert its 2021 potential net program loss of $800,000, HRCHC continues its efforts to secure additional funding streams.
