UK October lockdown 2021: Winter lockdown fears sparked as No10 warns it could ‘take further steps’

There are fresh fears of a winter lockdown as Number 10 Downing Street issued an ominous warning.

The government says it will ‘take further steps’ if needed to beat rising Covid infection rates across the country.

Last week, BirminghamLive reported lockdown powers had been extended by as much as six months by the government.

And now No 10 has issued further ominous warnings over the prospect of winter lockdown measures and restrictions.

The Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s spokesperson said today: “With regards to what comes next we need to carefully monitor the situation.

“As a responsible government, we retain the ability to take further steps if necessary but it is thanks to significant defences of vaccination programme that we are able to be one of the most open societies in Europe.

“And we will continue to push forward with vaccination programmes and that remains the case.”
