Campaigners from Action For Scotland turned heads with a banner drop at Edinburgh Waverley Station and the Queen Elizabeth House at Waverley Bridge. The UK Government recently completed their new Scottish headquarters which will be home to more than 3,000 civil servants.

Action for Scotland said they are demanding the Scottish Government closes borders and transport hubs linking England and Scotland in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus.

They claimed that “irresponsible” English tourists were putting the attempts to contain the virus in Scotland at risk.

It comes after a localised outbreak of COVID-19 started in Aberdeen with 101 cases of the virus reported since it first emerged last week.

Nicola Sturgeon yesterday said that hospitality businesses had to close as a result.

Sean Clerkin, campaigner at Action For Scotland, said: “Our protest at the British or English Government HQ Queen Elizabeth House is to demand that our border with England be closed immediately so that COVID-19 is not allowed to spread throughout Scotland by people coming up from England.

“Scotland is a colony of the British or English state and we will only ever truly control our borders with Scottish independence.

“If we were an independent nation we would already have closed our border with England further preventing the spread of COVID-19 in Scotland.

“The people of Scotland are increasingly being put at risk from COVID-19 by a lack of border controls and we are demanding that the border is closed immediately.”

Nicola Sturgeon had previously condemned a nationalist protest near the A1 at Lamberton last month.

Some of the group were wearing hazmat suits and masks and also carried Scotland flags and homemade banners urging holidaymakers travelling north not to cross the border into Scotland amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

One banner read: “Staycation: Keep Scotland COVID free”.
