The Department for Health has confirmed a further 54,940 people have returned a positive test for COVID-19 as of 9am on Sunday.

A further 563 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for the virus – an increase of more than 100 fatalities since last Sunday’s figures.

The rise in the death toll is set to be a cause for concern as there has often been a delay in the reporting of the coronaiurs figures during the weekends.

But, the daily figures are lower than what was reported on Saturday, when there was 59,937 new cases and 1,035 confirmed deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic, the UK has returned 3,072,349 positive COVID-19 cases and 81,431 fatalities.
